The Nigeria’s transmission system, known as national grid, has collapsed, plunging the country into a total darkness.
Platforms Africa reports that Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC), which confirmed this, sai21amat the system failure occured “at 11:21 hours,” on Sunday.
The failure led to a shutdown of all 20 power plants, except Ibom Power with 31 megawatts.

While confirming the incident the Management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) said the power outage was as a result of a system failure from the national grid “at 11:21 hours today, 4th February 2024 which has led to a nationwide power outage.”
While appealing for patience among its customers, it assured that it is working with the relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilized.
